Time is Money

League of Wildness -

I saw a bumper sticker while driving my daughter to school that said, “Money is time”.

After recognizing that this is the inverse of the more common phrase, “Time is money” I went on an exploration of thought.

I think that time is the ultimate currency.

Time has absolute value.

For me - the acquisition of ‘time wealth’ is my driving force.

I define ‘time wealth’ as having agency over my time.

It's not about free time and nothing to do, but rather a clearly defined intention and purpose.

There is a caveat to all of this.

Delayed gratification, hard work, and uncertainty are mandatory.

And…money does matter.

Because money is a signal of value and I want my ‘time wealth’ to be the result of real value being created.

I started college on a pre-med track, but quickly realized it was not for me.

I wanted to promote health, not treat disease.

Especially when it became obvious that the vast majority of our modern ailments are heavily influenced by our diet and lifestyle.

I believe that the value I offer is improved health, energy, and vitality.

And I generally can sleep well at night.

As a parent, business owner, and ‘adventure athlete’ I have become much more aware of the time thieves that seem to lurk around every corner.

I even keep one of these enemies tucked closely inside my front pocket offering safe harbor to the enemy of the thing I value most - my time.

For me - one of the gravest sins I can commit is being aware of an ‘evil’ in my life - a bad habit, relationship, belief, and so on - but failing to take action.

Maybe this is because of the illusion that life is an infinite game when in reality it is most painstakingly obvious to be finite.

When I spend time in the wild the finitude is much easier to recognize.

When the sun goes down there are no lights to switch on to artificially extend the day.

If my arrow reaches its target that is the end for that noble beast.

If I am not diligent in exposed terrain or extreme weather I will quickly witness my own transition to eternity.

This does not cause me angst or anxiety - but instead provides a powerful sense of urgency.

It serves as fuel to wake up each day and take action.

Previous action is the best predictor of future action.

If you rely on motivation, you will not get far.

Action begets action.

It makes even more sense when viewed through the lens of physics - an object in motion tends to stay in motion.

Make action your absolute priority and accept your earned value - in whatever form it may manifest.

Enjoy your time, protect it, make the most of it, and respect its end.

Much love!
